Diakonhjemmet is an foundation with approximately 2000 employees and a budget of about $300 million. The Foundation is the estate owner and facilitator of the services rendered

Aim

The aim of Diakonhjemmet is to promote and develop diaconal activity within the church as well as in society at large, both nationally and internationally, through:

Challenging and equipping personnel for help and care services to people in need, promoting justice and equality and contributing to reconciliation and protection of the environment;

  • Educating deacons;
  • SpecializedUniversity, Hospital and Care;
  • Research, development and communication;
  • Working with questions of ethics;
  • Other activities that contribute to the aims of the organisation

Diakonhjemmet Hospital is responsible for general hospital services for approximately 135,000 inhabitants in the western part of Oslo. The Hospital specializes in the fields of rheumatology and rheumatic surgery. The hospital's Department of Rheumatology is an EULAR Center of Excellence. The Department of Psychopharmacology is a national center of therapeutic drug monitoring and pharmacogenetic analyses, and of research in psychopharmacology and biological psychiatry.

VID Specialized University is a nationally recognized teaching institution and second largest in size of private university colleges in Norway. The college’s academic focus, is centred on Health, Social, and Church related programs on the bachelor and master levels, and supported by ongoing research in all fields and offers a PH. D. in Diakonia and Professional Practice.
