Values

Diakonhjemmet has defined four core values. They provide the foundation, direction and inspiration for Diakonhjemmet and our services as well as the interaction with everyone connected to Diakonhjemmet.

  • Service

"What can I do for you?" Service is about putting the other person at the center and an important part of our long tradition. Our church is a serving church, and we are called to be collaborators in this service. The word diaconi is of Greek origin and can be translated as “service”. Service is the ideal Diakonhjemmet strives toward. The aim is that patients, residents, students and other service users are placed in the center and met with openness. The concept of service must characterize approach to our social mission: Diakonhjemmet takes responsibility and contributes to solving societal challenges.

  • Quality

The history of creation tells that God saw that what he had created was good. In line with this belief in God who sustains creation and human dignity, the diaconia is called to promote the good in society and in people's lives. Delivering high quality is a demand that we set for ourselves and our services. We meet this obligation by continuously improving our work, and building upon professional competence and collaboration.

  • Respect

To look again is the literal meaning of the word “re spectare.” Inspired by Jesus' encounter with outcasts and the sick, we meet people without judgement or prejudices. Everyone is more than what we see. To show respect to others is to believe that all people carry within them something unique and precious. Diakonhjemmet works to ensure that everyone who seeks our services feels their needs are understood and respected and that their personal integrity and individuality are safeguarded. Respect characterizes our working environment and culture.

  • Justice

Diaconia is based on our rights as people, with reference to justice as a central biblical concept and to the principle of rights in our welfare system. Diakonhjemmet promotes the rights of vulnerable groups in today's health and welfare system and works for correct prioritization and efficient use of resources.
